AdSense, you better pay up sucka.

When I signed up for a MyBlogLog account a few months ago I was really impressed by their service.  Not only could I meet other bloggers in my niche, I could also see who was visiting and when.  Around the same time that I added the MyBlogLog tracking widget I also decided to monetize with a few AdSense link units. Now having a MyBlogLog account was not only a great way to see who was reading but it was now also a great way to track my AdSense clicks (or at least I thought).

After a month or two I started to notice that while MyBlogLog was reporting numerous AdSense clicks, AdSense was showing virtually nothing. At first I thought that there might be a lag between when a user clicked the ad and when Google would report the revenue. Unfortunately this is not the case…take a look at a snapshot from the other day (below).

AsSense you a liar!

So what gives!? Has anyone else seen this with their own blog? I was under the impression that a click was a click was a click. I guess not!

That’s definitely weird. Have your stats updated at all? Google may have deemed the click invalid as well. That’s all I can think of.

@Erik - I have waited it out and still nothing. I think your are right on, I am thinking that these clicks are being deemed as “invalid”…not sure why though. I am definitely not clicking on my own ads.

I actually saw the same thing on my page. For example I had something get posted on CollegeHumor…which brought like 15,000 unique visitors. MyBlogLog showed a bunch of clicks, but there was practically none from AdSense. I contacted Google, and they basically said we didn’t see those clicks.

Not sure if MyBlogLog is accurate or not, but I’m curious which one is truly right.

@Dave - Since I posted this article I have been seeing others that have also noted a discrepancy in the number of clicks AdSense is reporting. It looks like removing the MBL code does not help either. It would appear that Google has become very strict with respect to what they deem as a “valid” click.

I had a problem with adsense a few days ago,
I got 0,75 cents but it was not summed to the total amount :S
    I didn’t get that!

@Ricky - I continue to struggle with my AdSense numbers not adding up. I haven’t had a chance to do additional research but am guessing Google has set some threshold that determines when they pay and when they don’t. I am guessing they set a cookie that tracks the amount of time you spend “viewing” the ad. If the user doesn’t stay on the ad (long enough to read it) the ad host doesn’t get paid…again just a guess?
